Hi, I’m Sarah.

A “10k” (actually 6.7 miles, gotta love that about trail races) in September 2022. Most of it was wooded, but this cornfield took me back to my Midwestern roots! (Swim Bike Run Photography)

I love to run. I also like watching birds. At Nerdy Bird Running, I post about my experiences on the trails in hopes of inspiring others to pursue their “impossible goals” and enjoy the journey along the way.

I started running on my middle school track team and never looked back. Over the last 20 years I’ve learned that integrating weight-lifting, yoga, HIIT, and pilates into my training keeps me healthier and happier overall, and allows me to do more of what I love most: Run!

A habitual marathoner and half marathoner since 2007, in 2017 I started transitioning to more trail running. Now I’m hooked on the trails and the trail running community, and I enjoy racing everything from 10ks to ultras.

In any free time when I’m not running or otherwise working out, I enjoy gardening (flowers and veggies), making music (I’ve been in choruses and orchestras over the years), spending time with my husband and kitty, and, duh, birdwatching (mostly in my neighborhood and on trail runs).

I invite you to join me…

…as I find my way through the woods and other adventures. Explore and engage with me as I push my physical and mental limits while always trying to stay open to the next beautiful surprise, whether it’s a pileated woodpecker or an endorphin-fueled runner’s high. Let’s go!
